Spring 2002
"Three Little Maids From Shul"
Temple Sinai of Washington, DC celebrated it’s 50th anniversary, on March 9, 2002, with a gala concert featuring Robyn, Cantor Rochelle Helzner (Robyn’s sister) of Tikvat Israel Congregation in Rockville, Maryland, and Temple Sinai’s Cantor Laura Croen. The women performed a variety of selections from the folk, liturgical, opera and Broadway repertoire. The trio’s fanciful adaptation of Gilbert and Sullivan’s "Three Little Maids From School", re-titled "Three Little Maids From Shul", was the hit of the evening.
A Chinese jazz band playing klezmer music will entertain at the evening reception. The band was a hit at the first bar mitzvah celebration in 1996.
Following the festivities in Beijing, Robyn will travel to Hong Kong for a residency with the United Jewish Congregation of Hong Kong.
Robyn Helzner Trio News
 The
Trio presented a Selichot concert at Beth Israel in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on September 8, 2001. As part of
this special concert to welcome the Jewish New Year, the Trio performed, "Turn, Turn, Turn," composed
by Pete Seeger with lyrics adapted from the book of Ecclesiastes. Since the tragic events of September 11th, this
song, reflecting the precious, fragile and cyclical natures of life, has become a regular part of the Trio’s concert
repertoire.
In January,
the Robyn Helzner Trio returned to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina to celebrate the dedication of Temple Emanu-El’s
new education center. The concert drew a capacity crowd from across the region. The diverse audience reflected
the congregation’s strong ties to the Myrtle Beach interfaith community.
The Trio
celebrated Shabbat Shirah with a weekend residency at Temple Aliyah in Woodland Hills, California.
The group participated in Shabbat services, led zemirot on Shabbat afternoon and presented a concert on Saturday
evening that included the congregation’s youth choir.
