Beijing Bar Mitzvah
 Robyn served as the cantor at the first bar mitzvah celebrated in Beijing, China. In January 2003, Robyn will officiate at another Beijing bar mitzvah. Beijing's Jewish congregation, Kehillat Beijing, serves approximately 100 expatriates living and working in the Chinese capital. The community sponsors weekly Shabbat services and imports a student rabbi for the High Holidays.
A Chinese jazz band playing klezmer music will entertain at the evening reception. The band was a hit at the first bar mitzvah celebration in 1996.
Following the festivities in Beijing, Robyn will travel to Hong Kong for a residency with the United Jewish Congregation of Hong Kong.
Robyn Helzner Trio News
 A concert with the Trio, honoring Cantor Rochelle Helzner (Robyn's sister) on her 18th anniversary at Tikvat Israel in Rockville, Maryland, is scheduled for November 24, 2002. In celebration, the concert will feature new songs by Washington, D.C. area Jewish composers, including Trio member, Dov Weitman.
The Trio will perform at the Chutzpah! Jewish Arts Festival in Vancouver, B.C., Canada in March 2003. The group will present an evening concert for adults and an afternoon program for families and children.
The Trio celebrated Israel Independence Day at Har Zion Temple in Penn Valley, Pennsylvania. A large audience turned out to show support for Israel during this difficult time in the country's 54-year old history.
Oak Park Temple's adult and youth choirs joined the Trio in Illinois for a concert in April 2002. The concert, observed Cantor Julie Yugend-Green, enabled the community to come together and experience, "the sheer joy of being Jewish."
