Matt Holsen

Matt Holsen, a native of Washington, DC, grew up in Spain and Chile, steeped in the music of three cultures and seven centuries. An accomplished singer and instrumentalist, Matt has performed with pop, jazz, folk and classical groups, and appeared on two Capitol recordings under the direction of Leonard Bernstein. A record producer and arranger, Matt currently runs his own recording studio and sings with the Washington Bach Consort. With his abundant musical talent, skills and experience, Matt contributes a wealth of expertise to the Trio's music and arrangements.

Matt’s professional career began with a bang when, at age 18, he appeared in Leonard Bernstein's "Mass" for the opening of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C. He subsequently sang on two recordings with Bernstein and studied composition with W.S. Huffman.

Matt continues to work as a singer/songwriter, arranger, composer and producer, in a dizzying variety of styles and venues - from blues - to Ellington - to Bach; and from noisy bars to hushed concert halls. Matt's composing and arranging credits include orchestral, choral and chamber pieces, pop songs, and a few jingles. His performing credits include two years with the vocal quartet, Uptown Vocal Jazz and several national tours with the "Dinorock" children’s theater productions. Matt has also performed his own songs at festivals and clubs nationwide.
