Kreplach & Dim Sum Jewish Heritage Tour to China October 2015
hirty-three enthusiastic travelers embarked on an amazing Jewish Heritage Tour to China in October
T 2015. Our journey took us to Shanghai, Beijing, Xi'an and Hong Kong. Highlights included: Shanghai: We explored the historic Hongkou ghetto where more than 20,000 European Jews survived World War II, living side by side with their Chinese neighbors. We visited the Jewish Refugees Museum housed in the former Ohel Moshe Synagogue and strolled along Shanghai’s famous waterfront, the Bund. Beijing: We celebrated Shabbat with Kehillat Beijing and met Chinese students studying Hebrew at Beijing University. We toured Tiananmen Square, the Forbidden City, the Temple of Heaven, the Summer Palace and the Great Wall.



Hong Kong





Xi'an: We encountered the famous Terra-Cotta Warriors, visited the Great Mosque and learned about the merchants (including Jews) who journeyed to China along the Silk Road. Hong Kong: We celebrated Shabbat with the United Jewish Congregation of Hong Kong and visited the historic Ohel Leah synagogue. Excursions to Victoria Peak, Stanley Market, and a ride on the Star Ferry capped our exciting adventure. Our tour guides were fabulous, the weather was spectacular and the sites were astounding. We sang, we danced, we ate, and we explored China with a uniquely Jewish focuperiencing past and present Jewish life in fascinating and unexpected ways.
